At the start of this season like any other we saw a multitude of new football shirts hit the market, some instantly caught our eye and went down as instant modern classics, but what about the ones that might have been overlooked or gone under the radar? In this article, we are going to take a look at the kits of this season that we think deserve more praise than they’ve been given.
Werder Bremen 2023-2024 Home Football Shirt
Hummel knocked it out of the park with this stunning 23/24 Bremen home shirt, taking inspiration from their famous 1986 Denmark home kit template. This kit features the famous Hummel chevrons across the shoulders, along with beautiful white and green colouring. The manufacturer has also utilised this design style on kits for other clubs this season such as Real Betis, Coventry City and Southampton FC.
Yokohama F. Marinos 2024 Home Football Shirt
Yokohama Marinos are no strangers when it comes to great-looking kits, throughout the 1990s they produced some of the best jersey’s that the J League had to offer. We think the 2024 Home jersey lives up to that history. Now, the actual design of this jersey, for the most part, is nothing groundbreaking, but we think its blue base colour, stunning sleeve and collar pattern, combined with the Nissan sponsorship takes this kit to a truly elite level of aesthetics, and it is definitely a kit you don’t hear much about!
Fiorentina 2023/2024 Fourth Football Shirt
Fiorentina are another club with a history of creating beautiful football kits, their 90s-era tops are considered to be some of the best shirts of all time. This amazing fourth shirt for the 23/24 season, consists of a bold pink marble pattern that was designed by students from the Polimoda art school in Florence. If you wore this jersey to 5 a side, there’s a very slim chance anybody would be in anything as good-looking.
Lyon 2023/2024 Third Football Shirt
Another criminally underrated shirt from this season is the Olymipique Lyon 23/24 third shirt. Designed by French-based abstract artist Simon Poter, the kit showcases a striking multicoloured pattern inspired by the skyline of Lyon. This kit is just 1 of 3 incredible jerseys released by the club this season, which is why this beauty might have slid a little under some people’s kit radar.
Feyenoord 2023/2024 Away Football Shirt
When it comes to kit releases from the Eredivisie, a spotlight often shines on PSV and Ajax, which can make bangers from other Dutch clubs go a little more unnoticed. The Feyenoord 2023/24 top is a jersey that we believe matches up with the best released from the Netherlands this year. The shirt sports an amazing blue abstract pattern that pays homage to the architecture of the club’s home city of Rotterdam. It is also a tribute to Feyenoord’s 1998/99 title-winning season.
Besiktas 2023/2024 Away Football Shirt
An absolute gem from the Süper Lig this season, the Besiktas 23/24 away shirt features a clean black base colour with a bold white eagle feather design inspired by the club’s nickname “black eagles”. The club have sported this jersey domestically and in the group stages of the Europa Conference league.
Swansea 2023/2024 Fourth Football Shirt
With English club kits it is easy to focus too much on what the Premier League has to offer, there is a multitude of great kits from the EFL this season and the Swansea 23/24 is the pick of the bunch. The shirt is inspired by the Swans 1994/95 jersey that was worn in the season they lifted the EFL Trophy (Autoglass Trophy in 1994). This stunning modern interpretation features the same style pattern and Gulf front sponsorship as the original jersey from 30 years ago.
Oakland Roots 2024 Home Football Shirt
The USL Championship is another league filled with great lesser-known teams and kits, the best from this season is the astonishing Oakland Roots 2024 home jersey. Sportswear company Charly replaced Meyba as the club’s kit manufacturer this season and produced this beautiful bright design inspired by the club’s crest. The pattern consists of multi-coloured mosaic stripes on top of a base colour of solid black.
KAA Gent 2023/2024 Special Football Shirt
Belgian side KAA Gent surprised us in December last year with this simply stunning release. The vibrant light blue and white shirt was created by graphic designer Terry Kritis, alongside artist Bert Huyghe working with Swedish kit manufacturer Craft. The top’s pattern is said to take inspiration from kits of the 1990s and is an abstract portrayal of the seats inside Gent’s stadium, the Planet Group Arena.
Vancouver FC 2024 Away Football Shirt
Canadian Premier League side Vancouver FC stunned us when they released this beautiful cherry blossom shirt last month. The club say the jersey was inspired by the 40,000 cherry trees found in the local area that blossom in the springtime. The shirt also honours the nation’s “Pink Shirt Day” campaign which aims to raise awareness of bullying.
